Vandalism in Communities

The definition of vandalism from Merriam Webster states that vandalism is, “willful or malicious destruction or defacement of public or private property.” Why anyone would do this act, I’m not sure. Vandalism is illegal in all 50 states and varies from egging a house to breaking a window on purpose. Vandalism does nobody good, it costs the owner of the property money to fix the problem, and will cost the vandal time in jail.

On the other hand, there is a type of vandalism which could be ok. Graffiti is everywhere and is considered an art form. Some graffiti is vulgar and should be taken down, while others are emotional art pieces that should be respected and as long as it does not effect a company from driving in customers, should not be taken down. Famous artist’s work, such as Banksy, should be appreciated for the amount of hard work and skill goes into each piece of art.
